It was the fourth of an eight day road trip around Iceland. That day we drove roughly around 260 miles from Djúpivogur to the lake Myvatn area. Along the way we were mesmerized by the majesty of the eastern fjords and many other natural wonders this country has to offer. Upon arriving to Hótel Laxá, our accommodation for the next two days, we were a bit tired but anxious to go out and continue exploring outdoors. Upon check in we headed out to grab a bite at a local pizza place named Daddi's Pizza. After that we returned to the hotel to relax a little bit and to go aurora hunting.
At night the weather turned for the worse and started raining so we decided not to go out because the chances of seeing the aurora were slim with the total cloud cover in our area. Nonetheless, we were checking the sky conditions from our room window.
At around 1130 that night, I went outside to check, since it had stopped raining, and to my surprise…boom---I saw my first Aurora Borealis! I rushed back to my room and told my wife to get dress and to hurry outside to witness this wonderful event. I grabbed my camera and ran outdoors.
In this shot I didn’t care about proper composition neither I gave it a lot of consideration. I wanted to document the event but my main focus was in enjoying the moment. My first Aurora…enjoy it as much as I still do!!!
